Taharka Brothers Ice Cream serves award-winning, homemade, handmade ice cream with a purpose. Started in 1999, Taharka Brothers turned to local farms for many of its ice cream's ingredients and hires young, inner-city professionals to teach them about entrepreneurship and to manage the company. 

Flavors rotate but staples like vanilla and chocolate are always available, alongside specialties like cardamon, honey lavender and candied fennel. Note that the Mt. Washington shop, which is located next door to Whole Foods, opened in 2005 as Sylvan Beach and continues to bear that name on its sign outside.
