Gertrudes's is an upscale restaurant located within the Baltimore Musuem of Art, next to Johns HopkinsMore University. Diners can enjoy views of the museum's lavish grounds through large picture windows; there's also an outdoor patio and a sizable bar.  Chef John Shields specializes in excellent Chesapeake Bay coastal seafood dishes. The restaurant is open throughout the week, even when the musuem is closed; brunch and special events are also held here. Groups can arrange meals from a customized menu. Reservations are recommended.

A longtime favorite on the Avenue, the Lunch Box (formerly Mikes Place) serves up a scrumpious menu of traditionalMore American dishes for breakfast and lunch.  Set up like an old-fashioned diner, patrons will find an atmosphere of the old-time Hampden. The owners, the Lees, are have revamped the diner's interior.

The typical dishes include sandwiches, burgers, eggs, turkey, as well as specials including meatloaf. One can expect a fast-paced lunch crowd and an even busier weekend brunch crowd. Parking can be a premium with many nearby spots taken by other visitors to Hampden. 

The Baltimore Museum of Art

The Baltimore Museum of Art is a stunning collection of art, including 19th century, modern and contemporary art. TheMore museum holds over 90,000 works of art. The internationally renowned Cone collection  includes a group of 500 works by Henri Matisse. There is also a large collection of contemporary art, including many works by Andy Warhol. The museum also features two outdoor landscaped sculpture gardens. The building itself is gorgeous and inviting, with room after room of high ceilings and beautiful floors. Helpful and friendly docents greet you immediately upon your entrance to the museum. There are a wide array of books, prints, cards, and calendars for sale in the BMA gift shop. Perhaps most amazing of all, admission to the BMA's general collection is always free.

If you are hungry after a long day of perusing the vast collection at the BMA, you will not find standard museum cafeteria fare. Instead, the BMA is home to the extremely popular restaurant, Gertrude's, featuring nationally acclaimed chef John Shields. Gertrude's is known for its delicious regional offerings, as well as its brunch.
