Volunteers and Greater Homewood Community Corporation employees will be working toward revamping the former Barclay Recreation Center.

Greater Homewood Community Corporation employees and neighborhood volunteers will be gathering to continue the process of transforming the former Barclay Recreation Center into a new community center. Volunteers will gather on Presidents Day at 11 a.m. at the center, 300 W. 29th St., to begin cleaning and prepping the center for painting. New Local Beer Served in Old Style

Liam Flynn’s received a one-off cask-conditioned batch of Red Cent Amber Ale brewed in Abell.

Liam Flynn’s Ale House started serving a new beer in an old world style Monday. The Irish pub received a one-off cask-conditioned batch of Red Cent Amber Ale from the Abell-based Public Works Ale. What makes the cask different is that it is hand-pumped the way beer was traditionally served in pubs across the Atlantic. "Cask experience is a little different, not that it's any better or any worse, it's just sort of different because of the natural yeast and the filtering, it's an overly pleasant experience," said Liam Flynn, the ale house's owner.  Patrick Beille, owner of Public Works Ale, said the major differences in a cask beer, as opposed to a standard keg, are that the brew isn't filtered or carbonated. "We get this beer directly from …

Actually it is a viable business rather than a hobby. You should meet the owner; he is serious about making good beer; beer that speaks for itself in its simple, fresh way. Alert--I help him market his product for fair disclosure, but only because I enjoy the beer. As for the locale, as a longtime local I too was a bit skeptical but went there last night with no issues or threatening situations …   more ›

I would like to see the next story in the patch, reading about someone having an absurd amount of money stolen from them a report of the same person arrested for insurance fraud. If you have homeowners/renters/business insurance you know these absurd claims only makes it more expensive to buy a policy in your neighborhood.   more ›

The Homewood Community Partners Initiative will steer the investments.

Daniels said during a news conference. “That is to say that what we’re thinking about is everything from thinking about incentives for improvement of housing, more lively retail and commercial corridor to improvement …

1) What was a Payless Shoes employee doing walking with a bag of money out in the open? I am not aware of any banks in the immediate vicinity fo the 3700 block of Hickory - which means most likely she was transporting the deposit on foot, from the store to a bank on 36th Street, via Hickory Avenue. That is very careless and probably not in compliance with company policy. 2) I feel very safe in …   more ›

You can get good life advice just about anywhere. But getting it from a street sign? Well, in Abell one stop sign at the corner of 32nd Street and Abell Avenue offers some solid advice.
