The Pen Lucy man convicted in the late-2011 shooting death of Rodney Pridget was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole Tuesday. Tyrone Brown, 21, was convicted of first-degree murder on March 13, 2013. Judge Robert Cahill ordered the sentence to be served consecutively to another 10-year sentence Brown is serving in Baltimore City, according to a news release from the Baltimore County State's Attorney Office. Commissioner Anthony Batts said there are "no credible threats" to Baltimore.
Baltimore City police are raising their alert level following Monday afternoon's attack near the finish line of the Boston Marathon. "There are no credible threats," Police Commissioner Anthony Batts said during a press conference Monday, as reported by WJZ. However, in a Tweet, the department urged residents who see something suspicious to call police at 1-800-492-TIPS. Around 3 p.m., two explosions rocked the popular Boston tradition, killing three and injuring dozens more, according to The Boston Globe. Alycia Marie Hoffman, 25, faces narcotics possession charges as well traffic offenses
The woman that allegedly hit two Baltimore City police officers with a car on Wednesday, previously faced theft charges as a result of being a passenger in a car during a fatal accident in July 2011. Alycia Marie Hoffman, 25, was arrested and charged with drug possession and several traffic offenses after she allegedly struck two police officers with a car and then led a chase into Baltimore County, according to police. Hoffman, of Bel Air, after allegedly striking the officers, led police on a chase through Northeast Baltimore, Towson, Parkville and Carney before county police cars boxed her in and forced her to a stop. Within the same hour that Pikesville Patch published an article about a controversial photo posted on Shomrim's Facebook page, the group posted an explanation about why the picture was posted.
The Shomrim of Baltimore neighborhood watch group published an explanation on Thursday about why it has been featuring a photo on its Facebook page since Tuesday that shows a black male riding a bike and towing another. The photo garned several critical comments on Facebook that the picture implied that the man was stealing the bike—a racially charged accusation by a group that recently was the center of an incident that heightened tensions between Jews and blacks in Northwest Baltimore. The explanation on the group's Facebook page—whose stated mission is to "gather intelligence on security and safety issues affecting our community"—said the photo is not meant to indicate the man is involved in wrongdoing. UPDATE (6:30 p.m)— A Medfield man was killed Tuesday in a police involved shooting on Weldon Place. Around 4:30 p.m. Baltimore Police were called to a residence in the 1400 block of Weldon Place North in Medfield in response to a family disturbance call, police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said. A Medfield man was shot and killed by police at the scene. A knife was found in the area when officers arrived, Guglielmi said. Avi Werdesheim, a medical student on trial for assault in Baltimore City, assisted a woman who had fainted in the courtroom on Tuesday, according to a report in the Baltimore Sun. Werdesheim, a medical student at University of Maryland, Baltimore County, checked Sun reporter Tricia Bishop's vital signs before she was transported to a local hospital, the report states. Bishop was treated and released. Werdesheim and his brother, Eli, residents of Cheswolde, are on trial for a Nov. 19, 2010 incident, in which the brothers allegedly followed and beat Corey Ausby, then 15, in Upper Park Heights.
