It's not a statue in front of the office building that bares his name but Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller did receive a bust of himself this week courtesy of the Regional Manufacturing Institute. Sen. Kathy Klausmeier, a Perry Hall Democrat, gave a sneak preview of the small, light-weight bust of Miller moments before presenting it to the Senate's top dog. "You can't have too much Mike Miller," Klausmeier said. The technology is similar to what was used in a scene of Jurassic Park 3 where a copy of a velociraptor's larynx was recreated. One local furniture chain will be reimbursing more than a half-million in weekend sales after Ravens speedster Jacoby Jones returned the third-quarter kickoff for a touchdown in Super Bowl XLVII Sunday.
Some lucky Baltimore-area residents enjoyed their new couches a whole lot more in the second half of Sunday's Super Bowl. Because Jacoby Jones returned the opening kickoff of the third quarter for a touchdown, Gardiner's Furniture will fulfill a promise to refund all purchases made in their stores over the weekend. Sports blog Deadspin has a video of the 108-yard return, the longest play in NFL postseason history. On its Facebook page Sunday night, Gardiner's Furniture posted: That was amazing! Although Falls Church High School Football Coach Said Aziz thinks the 49ers are going to win the Super Bowl, he hopes Smith, who he coached in 2005, has a great game.
Ask Falls Church High School Head Football Coach Said Aziz whom he thinks will win Super Bowl XLVII and he won’t hesitate to say it’s the San Francisco 49ers. Aziz, however, does want to his former Stafford High School player and now Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith, to have a good game. In 2005 when Smith was quarterback at Stafford in Northern Virginia, Aziz was the offensive line coach and defensive coordinator. “He was a really good kid,” Aziz said Friday. “I do want Torrey to have a good game.” According to the Ravens website, before playing his college football at the University of Maryland, Smith earned honorable mention All-Northwest Region as a quarterback his senior year. The Baltimore Ravens have settled in down in New Orleans and they're getting ready to take on the 49ers in the Super Bowl; meanwhile, back at home, retirees at Oak Crest are getting ready to cheer on the home team. In this YouTube video, titled "Super Dreams", 71-year-old Oak Crest resident Gene Miller leads the Oak Crest team in performing the Ravens pre-game ritual, including his own version of Ray Lewis' famous "squirrel dance". "I've been a Baltimore sports fan since 1965, and this year's Ravens team has been as exciting as any I've seen," Miller said in a press release.
