Green Spring Tower Square Giant Open 24 Hours

The new store announced its around the clock hours on Tuesday.

The next time you're making a late night meal—and notice you’re missing an ingredient—the Green Spring Tower Square Giant will be open. The Landover based grocery chain announced Tuesday its store, located at 1020 W. 41st Street, will now be open 24 hours a day seven days a week. "Over Giant’s 75-year history, we’ve always been committed to providing our customers the highest levels of quality, value, and service. We recognize that our shoppers have varied schedules, and operating our store 24 hours a day is just another convenience we’re proud to offer our Baltimore customers," store manager Nick Hyson said in a news release. The store moved from its 20,000 square foot location at the Rotunda and took over the 48,500 square foot location…

Hampden Giant Prepares for Opening

Giant announced that it was moving from the Rotunda shopping center in January.

Giant, which is moving its store from the Rotunda to the a shopping center in the 1000 block of W. 41st Street, is getting ready to open at the end of the month. The store will have a soft opening at the new location on March 29 and will have a ribbon cutting at 6 p.m., according to the Baltimore Messenger. Giant formerly announced its decision to leave the Rotunda shopping center in January. In conjunction with the announcement that Giant was leaving the center Hekemian & Co., who owns the Rotunda, announced plans to restart a long delayed renovation. Hekemian & Co. has been planning to reshape the Rotunda into a mixed-use out door mall since 2005. Those plans were delayed after the economic collapse of 2008. But Chris Bell, senior vice …

Rotunda Owner Addresses Stalled Development Plans

Chris Bell, senior vice president of Hekemian & Co., spoke with residents for the first time since Giant announced it was leaving.

Chris Bell, senior vice president of Hekemian & Co., spoke to residents about plans for renovating the Rotunda shopping center for the fist time since the Giant announced it was moving last month.  Hekemian, owner of the Rotunda, has been trying to renovate it into a mixed use outdoor mall since 2005. During a meeting Tuesday night, Bell told residents the company wants to move forward with the renovations and possibly begin them as early as spring 2013. “We want to get this thing under $150 million, we want to get it under $100 million and we want to get this thing built fast,” Bell said. Rotunda Faces Life After Giant

Development consultant says the Rotunda's owner plans to move forward with plans to reshape the shopping center.

Despite the setback of losing a key tenant,  Hekemian & Co., which owns the Rotunda, will push on with redevelopment plans.   Al Barry, a development consultant who works with the real estate management and development company, said although there isn’t currently a date set, that Hekemian intend to hold a community meeting regarding the shopping center’s future. Giant announced last week that it is moving its store from the Rotunda a few blocks down 41st Street to the site of a former Superfresh and Fresh and Greens store. Barry said that Hekemian was aware that Giant had been negotiating to move the store for about two years, but was unaware that a deal had been reached for the store to move until it was announced on Friday.
