Learn To Disarm a Shooter: Free Class Sunday

In the wake of the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown CT, Masada Tactical in Pikesville will train people to act, even before emergency responders arrive.

A Baltimore County self-defense instructor is leading a free class Sunday on how to disarm a shooter. Tzviel BK Blankchtein, owner and chief instructor at Masada Tactical in Pikesville, said it's his way of helping to protect the community, especially teachers, in the wake of the Dec. 14 Newtown, CT, school shootings. Until officials can find a permanent solution for protecting the schools, it's best to learn self-defense skills to save yourself and others against a shooter in a school or office building, he said. Man Allegedly Brings Handgun to Hampden School

He was reportedly at the school for a conference with his child’s teachers.

The father of a student at the Academy for College and Career Exploration in Hampden was arrested and charged with bringing a handgun into the school on Wednesday. Rodney Parker, 39, was allegedly spotted dropping a handgun, picking it up and entering the school at about 10 a.m. on Wednesday, said Det. Vernon Davis, a police spokesman.  The resident who reportedly observed the actions told an officer, who responded to the school and put it on lock down, police said. The officer and a school resource officer searched for a man matching Parker’s description. When they found him, he allegedly had a .22 caliber pistol in his possession.
