Zoning Board Dismisses Methadone Clinic Request

The proposed clinic would’ve been located next door to an elementary and middle school.

A zoning board dismissed a request to operate a methadone clinic near a Charles Village school when the applicant failed to appear at a hearing Monday. Juliet Adetunji was scheduled to appear before the Municipal and Zoning Appeals Board on Tuesday at 1 p.m., but she never showed up, and her request to operate "health care clinic, mental health, substance abuse treatment and counseling services" at 2541 St. Paul Street was dismissed. Before the board ruled to dismiss the zoning request, Steve Crouch, the building’s manager, said that neither he nor the building’s owner knew, or approved for anyone to pursue operating a methadone clinic at the property. Crouch said the building is currently leased to Isaac Ogunsola & Co. CPA, and that their…

Alot of meth centers like NewHope on Baltimore St. have alot of pill sellers who buy for the cocktail right in front of the centers. But they now have at least one cop patroling on foot only causing these people to walk either up or down the street to sell or buy anything they want or need.   more ›

Methadone Clinic Proposed Near Charles Village School

A city zoning board will hear an appeal to allow the use of a building near the Margaret Brent Elementary/Middle School as a methadone clinic on Tuesday.

A city zoning board will decide Tuesday whether or not to allow a methadone clinic to open just feet away from a public elementary and middle school in Charles Village. The Board of Municipal and Zoning Appeals will hear the request to allow the use of the first floor of 2541 St. Paul Street, located next to the Margaret Brent School, to be used as a "health care clinic, mental health, substance abuse treatment and counseling services" at 1 p.m. Tuesday. The effort to open a drug treatment center so close to the school has irked parents and school advocates. Karen DeCamp, director of neighborhood programs at Greater Homewood Community Corporation, said the nonprofit has been working with parents and the Charles Village Civic Association to…

Too bad those numbers are probably low ball estimates...after the school board, the city council, and the mayor office give the contract to one of their own friends/cronies MBE's (remember minority business enterprise deals are not just for minorities, it's for women too...which means the only companies that cannot be given the contracts are those owned by white men that can't put their company …   more ›

Charles Village Parents Spark Interest in Neighborhood Schools

Parents in Charles Village trying to encourage residents to send their children to the neighborhood's public schools.

What started as a group of Charles Village parents wondering where to send their kids to school has coalesced into an effort to promote local public education. On Tuesday morning, Melanie Cornelisse, a member of The Village Parents, spoke about efforts to get her neighbors to send kids to Margaret Brent Elementary and Middle School. “A big part of the challenge is to get people that live in the neighborhood to come through the door,” said Cornelisse, a former teacher who runs the elementary school's Story Pals and Math Matches volunteer programs. The Village Parents' goal is to make the neighborhood more family friendly, with activities for kids and stronger schools, according to the group’s website. “There are a lot of parents that …
