McDonough Calls For Firing Of State Prisons Head

The Middle River Republican wants Gary Maynard "fired two weeks ago" and Gov Martin O'Malley to call in the FBI to investigate gang problems in state correctional facilities.

The head of the state prison system should be fired after federal indictments of 25 guards and inmates were made public last week, according to Del. Pat McDonough. "Gary Maynard should be fired, like two weeks ago," McDonough, a Middle River Republican, said. "This has been going on for years. It's widespread and it's institutional." Raquel Guillory, a spokeswoman for the governor, said O'Malley "has repeatedly expressed confidence in Secretary Maynard." Earlier this week, O'Malley called the indictments a positive development in the fight against gangs, according to a WMAR television report. The governor praised Maynard during a May 1 Board of Public Works meeting. "You do good work rooting out corruption," O'Malley told Maynard. The …

Bob, one person's left wing nut case is another person's sane moderate. Let's be real here: both political parties today are RIGHT of center, the Democrats just not as much as the Republicans and nowhere near as much as the Tea Party.   more ›

City Paper: McDonough To Introduce Gun Owner Privacy Bill

The bill was brought on by a New York paper's decision to publish a map of pistol permit owners shortly after the Newtown, CT school shooting.

State Del. Pat McDonough wants to stop newspapers from publishing information about gun owners. City Paper reports a bill on the subject is one of three that McDonough plans to introduce in the General Assembly session that starts in January. McDonough, a Middle River Republican who represents parts of Baltimore and Harford counties, told City Paper that the gun owner bill was brought on by current events. In New York, following the Dec. 14 school shooting in Newtown, CT, The Journal News published an online map of pistol permit holders in three counties. The map was compiled using public record requests. A blogger retaliated by posting the addresses of Journal News staffers, as CNN reported. One blogger even published the address of the …

'DREAMERS' Kick Off Tuition Law Fight at UMBC

Supporters say law gives students who are illegal immigrants "a level playing field."

Karina is a "Dreamer." She says she's not the only one. The 22-year-old illegal immigrant and Montgomery College student spoke Wednesday at a news conference at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County to kick off Educating Maryland Kids, an effort to pass the Maryland DREAM Act. "My mother has always told me that education is the path to my success and I very much believe that," said the woman who was only identified by her first name. Karina, who plans on graduating next year with dual associate degrees in general studies and mental health, called for support for a bill that would grant in-state tuition rates to students like herself who are in this country illegally or are considered undocumented immigrants. The law that would grant…

The ignorance and hate expressed by some bloggers is disgusting - on both sides. Some on the left don't want to recognize that there is a problem and some on the right don't want to recognize that these are human children. Children raised in America as Americans. Some want to threaten these children and take away whatever dignity they can strip from them. Whatever makes Americans an American has …   more ›

McDonough Demands Debate with Mayor on 'Black Youth Mobs'

Republican delegate calls for Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake to "stop pressuring Baltimore City's top cop Commissioner Bealefeld into leaving his job."

Del. Pat McDonough continues to press his complaints about what he has called "black youth mobs" in Baltimore by calling on Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake to debate him on television. The Middle River Republican is also accusing Rawlings-Blake of forcing out Baltimore City Police Commissioner Frederick H. Bealefeld. Bealefeld announced his retirement earlier this month. In a statement released late Tuesday night, McDonough called on the mayor to debate him on television. He also released details of what he said was part of a bill he plans to introduce in Annapolis next year. "I acknowledge that I do not have all the answers," McDonough wrote in the statement. "At least I am making an honest effort to be part of the solution. The youth …

Parkvillehoney 11:42 am on Friday, June 15, 2012 I bet if you look into the backgrounds of the majority of the black teen "criminals" they are not living hand to mouth. They feel they are "entitled" to what normal people work for. Instead of finding a job and working their way up to middle class, they would rather steal to get it NOW. Look at the ATF raid in Hampden on Thursday, 06/15/20112. All …   more ›

McDonough: Inner Harbor Terrorized by 'Black Youth Mobs'

Baltimore County Republican calls for State Police patrols and to declare tourist area "a no travel zone."

The Inner Harbor area of Baltimore City is being terrorized by "black youth mobs" and city and state officials are "covering it up," according to one Baltimore County Republican. "This has been going on for years," said Del. Pat McDonough, a Middle River Republican who also represents part of Harford County. "I have a responsibility as an elected official to bring this to the public's attention," the delegate said, adding that "roving mobs of black youth are responsible for the attacks." A spokesman for Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake declined to comment directly to McDonough's remarks. "Del. McDonough's sad and racially-charged publicity stunt is not deserving of a response and Mayor Rawlings-Blake is proud of the men and women of the …

Supporters of Tuition for Illegal Immigrants Bill Head To Court

The lawsuit seeks to overturn successful petition drive.

UPDATED(3:43 p.m.)—Supporters of a bill granting in-state tuition rates to some illegal immigrants filed a lawsuit Monday seeking to overturn an effort to put the issue on the 2012 ballot. Casa De Maryland, in a statement released this morning, said the lawsuit was based on "illegalities discovered in the signatures submitted to and incorrectly validated by the Board as well as the grounds for relief." In all, opponents of the bill collected 132,071 signatures. The Maryland State Board of Elections certified that about 83 percent of those signatures—108,923— were valid. The bill was to have gone into effect on July 1 but is now on hold because of the referendum. Representatives of Casa De Maryland did not return calls from a reporter …
