The students signed letters announcing their intent to play college lacrosse next year.
Roland Park Country School announced that three seniros signed National Letters of Intent to play college lacrosse next year. According to a news release, Erika Brager committed to Jacksonville University, Emma Guarino to University of Michigan and Haley Hauser to Bucknell University. "The National Letter of Intent (NLI) is a binding agreement between a prospective student-athlete and an institution in which the institution agrees to provide a prospective student-athlete who is admitted to the institution and is eligible for financial aid under NCAA rules athletics aid for one academic year in exchange for the prospect's agreement to attend the institution for one academic year," according to a news release from the school.

Marion Penning will compete on the game show’s Teacher’s Challenge on Thursday.
Marion Penning, a history teacher and varsity crew head coach at Roland Park Country School, is competing in the Jeopardy! Teacher’s Challenge on Fox. Penning won her first round on Friday and will compete again at 7 p.m. on Thursday evening.

The company will be performing at Roland Park Country School next year.
The Young Victorian Theatre Company has a new location in the same neighborhood. The company, which primarily performs Gilbert and Sullivan musicals, will be relocating to Roland Park Country School next summer where it will present the HMS Pinafore at the school’s Sinex Theater, according to a news release. "After 42 years in North Baltimore the Young Vic is proud to remain committed to the greater Baltimore area and is honored to begin a new association with a great institution with a wonderful theatre facility for our audience," said Brian Goodman, the company’s general manager. A class at Bryn Mawr uses pop culture touchstones to examine Charm City's past, present and future.
Julie Clark, was teaching an elective on modern Africa at Bryn Mawr Scool about five years ago, when a student told her how much the turmoil on that continent reminded her of Baltimore. Clark said the student, who was a Baltimore resident, told her that the city, much like Africa, had always been troubled and would always be troubled. "I thought, ‘oh my gosh’ It felt terrible to hear this girl say this. And to be 18 and have this picture of Baltimore," Clark said. David Brock was honored with a ceremony at the school on Thursday.
Roland Park Country School teacher David Brock was named to the National Teachers Hall of Fame of Thursday. Brock was honored at a ceremony at the school. “David is a highly regarded member of our faculty whose teaching literally transforms lives. He is an influential and outstanding educator with a particular dedication to improving science teaching and expanding STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) opportunities for girls,” Head of School Jean Waller Brune said in a statement on the school’s website. The goal of the hall is to recognize and honor teachers and encourage excellence in that field, according to the National Teachers Hall of Fame website.

Some local girls lacrosse teams are being recognized on a national level. On ESPN.com’s 2012 Maryland girls’ lacrosse preview, Bryn Mawr and Roland Park Country School are listed as private school teams to keep an eye on in the state. According to the article, Bryn Mawr is loaded this season after winning 16 games in 2011 and only graduating four seniors. One can only "assume" a "bang swooper" has a negative connotation. It's a shame that it is attached to an article that promotes our youth to take an interest and inspire creative ideas to help solve problems; rather than to turn a blind eye to them. It is the youth of today that will keep our city safe, prosperous and thriving as well as resurrect the rich history.   more ›
