Rotunda Owners Communicate with Trader Joe's

Chris Bell, senior vice president of Hekemian and Co., said "everybody is interested" in opening a Rotunda location.

Chris Bell, senior vice president of Hekemian and Co., the company that owns the Rotunda, said he’s had conversations with just about every grocery chain—including one very popular choice—about opening a store at that location. “We have strong interest from a number of grocery chains,” Bell said. “Pretty much everybody is interested.” Bell, during a meeting with the Roland Park Civic League Thursday night, said that he’s had conversations with Trader Joe’s about the Rotunda location. “I’ve talked to Trader Joe’s three times already,” Bell said. Giant Foods, who have had a grocery store at the Rotunda since the late 1960s, moved their store down 41st Street to the Green Spring Tower Shopping Center in April. The move leaves the Rotunda …

Facebook Page Lobbies for Rotunda Trader Joe's

Some residents believe the specialty grocery store should replace Giant.

It didn’t take long for some residents to start lobbying for a replacement for the Giant at the Rotunda—Trader Joe’s. Supporters of bringing the specialty grocery store to the shopping center have launched a Facebook page that links to a “location request form” on Trader Joe’s website. The page currently has 427 "likes." It was announced last week that the Giant supermarket that has been a key tenant at the Rotunda, was moving to another location on 41st Street. However, there may be some neighborhood competition brewing. Many Charles Village residents have said they would like to see a Trader Joe’s come to the proposed 25th Street Station where big box home improvement retailer Lowe’s backed out of the project.   Where do you think would …
