ReplyI've always felt that "change" for the better of communities has to start at the local level first....perhaps it's time for "change" that is not for the better to be addressed at the local level as well...
There are too many perceived "protection" laws currently on the books that are not enforced fairly, accurately and are abused by bad government...
On the other hand... true Constitutionalism would teach that any perceived law that is created in violation of the Constitution is merely a non-law that should be challenged and defeated...I like the idea of one branch of government attempting to hold another branch of government accountable for their actions...the average citizen that chooses to live by the highest law of the land will most likely choose to ignore laws that violate the intent at whatever risk.
Regardless of the outcome..criminals will never abide by gun control, or any other law that they choose not to...criminals at every level will never be regulated away as a mean to protect the public. -

ReplyIf there are currently laws on the books that require the use of a gun safe or gun locks inside of your personal property you might have a valid argument...the comments that have been made regarding how Mr. Rice's guns were or were not locked up are speculative and without warrant. The gun control issue is in fact a hot button, but using the term "gun nuts" early on in your stand here only adds fuel to the divide and takes away from your very speculative argument.
I say that the guns were properly secured within the confines of Mr. Rice's personal property and how he stores them is frankly no one's business as long as he is not violating a law that is Constitutional....pretty much the end of the debate.. -

ReplyThe guns were locked up..inside of his private property...breaking into locked things is what criminals do...Ray's gun safe may have been broken into as well...perhaps the safe should have been kept in a safe that was placed in a safe place..hometowngirl...

The real question should be asked by the local government...at each level...
What is the reason for low voter participation?
I believe it is the responsibility of good government to encourage voter participation by any means necessary...even if a budget must be created to help educate the public about the absolute need to get involved. Those currently running for public service positions seem content with the apathetic status quot for some reason.
This very low voter turn out would indicate that Westminster is populated for the most part by dumbed down apathetic citizens...a clear example of a nationwide epidemic that continues to destroy our country...one small town at a time..
