Reply"Does the city’s budget reflect residents’ priorities?"
Does this question really need to be asked? Little to nothing of the decision making by city council reflects the tax payers/residents priorities. If our priorities were being met, many of those in the city council would be replaced. -

ReplyWhy should the Maryland Zoo and the Walters Art Museum have thier funding cut it this doesn't pass? Why not but the budgets of the city's spending board as well as the "gifts" the city council, etc. receive??

ReplyExactly Baltimore Matt! Does this mean that if Henry runs for...whatever it is he does again, and has another billboard put up with his handsome face on it, that THAT billboard will be taxed too??

ReplyST2. Things actually could be worse ya know. You could be oblivious to all of this and believe that these folks in office actually represent us and have our best interest in mind. It still amazes me that soe folks think I simply make this stuff up!
And at the end of the day ST@... you are wise and see things as they really are. A much worse fate would be to be one of 'them'. -

ReplyMany elected officials gained votes by adhering to the back room deals that go on each day downtown. "Just do as they tell you to do and keep your mouth shut" Their votes were paid for. Though their is a cap on how much money one can donate to a campaign fund, there are ways around this as well. And the more money there is backing up a candidate, the more advertising they get, and the more support they get from our illustrious local media. Sigh...... It's so incredibly blatant and yet...... it's condoned. Too much meny and too much power and it extends FAR beyond the city and the state. Accountability.....one can dream I suppose, yet...in reality it's a nightmare....

ReplyI hear you Robin, as I feel like I'm in similar circumstances. This is my hometown, and yet...I feel it's necessary to the the city and state, just so that I can survive. I see Hopkins listed in the BOE agendas often.
And accountability....yes! However, as a former Baltimore City cop told me years ago, when working with federal agents, that if there were to ever be an investigation done by the federal government on what's really going on, it would shut the city down. -

ReplyHow can we find out? This may or may not relate to this specific topic, but I'm wondering if a project is publicly funded are the books public information as well? Can we follow the money that we're spending on these projects? What money goes where and to whom?

What are the odds that Mr. MacArthur will actually get a fair trial in Baltimore, all things considered?? Will any of the Patch bloggers be there to support one of their own?
