ReplyI doubt that the Good Humor man will wander through the compound with 5 cent ice cream. Instead of the old grocery bus that used to wander through the Calvert Homes project and sell food to housewives, people can spend 6 bux on a waffle cone,3 dollars for lettuce, at Whole Foods. When I was 5, a man came through with kiddie rides on the back of his truck, and another man wandered around with his pinto Cow pony taking pictures of children for a few dollars. The perks came to us because we were kind of poor, and all that. It wasn't a modern glamorous way to live, but somehow, we had everything we needed. I think that people nowadays want to avoid "monstrosities, debacles, and more of same" when it comes to development. I miss the Fuller Brush man.

ReplyMy virtual computer ride along US 1 past the Cafritz property is always filled with fond memories. I "turn" into it from US 1 with my computer mouse, and try to figure out where everything sat in the Calvert Homes project. The trees are wonderful. I reached a gate where I could "go no further." Tried to find the Erco building, but became disoriented, so to speak. I navigated back to US 1, and dodged cyber traffic. I heard the hyenas laughing at me as I left Cafritz, but paid them no mind. I am just a little old lady with a fondness for the old days, oxygen rich air, starry skies, and coffee.

ReplyI am glad that I don't have to sit through the long winded arguments. I adore people who have mastered the verbal art of "cutting right to the chase." I don't live in Maryland any more, but I have a never ending fondness for the area in question, and appreciate that other people care about what happens in his or her territory, especially where nature is concerned.

ReplyI hope the Cafritz "development" delay drags on for years. But then, I tend to live in a time warp, anyway, and I hug trees.

ReplyNo one should cancel out his or her life energies due to the dastardly effects of the military industrial complex, and the daily stresses offered up by a chaotic society. Suicidal people must be offered a welcoming refuge, and a place to heal. Get them away from the sensory overload. We are animals. Nature can be our best healer when given an opportunity.

ReplyMy maternal grandfather was an Organic garden man. He lived near Behnkes on US 1 in Beltsville. He had no pesticides. His compost heaps were top notch, and sent up heavy duty ultra tall sunflowers. He had a well, chickens and the best soil a human could ask for. My sweet Maryland soil ! He grew corn, and hired a black man named Gus to plow his fields with a horse sometimes. From the 1920's to the 1960's, our family had the best vegetables and plants that Nature had to offer. Composting is an art, and very much worth looking into.

ReplyIt would be far better if they ate humans ! But, in all honesty, I would be worried that the little guys might get sick, and die.

ReplyButcher ? Bloody, cholesterol laden animal murder ? Barf. Coffee house (they roast their own beans with vegan food, and desserts. Vintage clothing shop, colon hydrotherapist (get rid of those big bellies) art supply house, shoe repair, and seamstress. Green clothing shop. (hemp, Lyocel, cotton, and bamboo clothing, etc.) The square deserves a lot of class. Isn't there enough alcohol in the area, already ?
