In Honor of James Gandolfini's Unfortunate Demise, a Roast Beef Sandwich Is Born

Luigi's Restaurant in Hampden has created a summertime sensation that honors 'The Sopranos' actor.

When staff members at Luigi's were creating their new, cold roast beef sandwich, they considered several names, including Marcus Aurelius.

Around that same time, they heard the news that actor James Gandolfini had died June 19, and realized his name was perfect, said owner Janine Little.

Since then, "We more than doubled our roast beef sales," with The Gandolfini, she said.

This $8 sandwich, made with Boar's Head Cajun roast beef, is served on a baguette with caramelized onions, fontina cheese, arugula and a pink horseradish sauce.

It costs $8.

Luigi's, located at 846 W. 36th St. in Hampden, is open from 8
a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
